WHITE CO.—It was a spectator event in downtown Grayville this morning as the old antiques mall building across the street from the police department was bellowing smoke under a controlled burn.
Firefighters said they had hoses trained on an adjacent building in order to keep the fire from spreading from the brick structure.
The place has been closed for a number of years, and has been the victim of fire a couple of times since, according to some observers in the growing crowd. Smoke could be seen for miles outside of town. Everything was looking good, however, and the burn, I was told, would likely be going on for a little while today.
