MARION, Ill.---The man who held police at a standoff this morning in Marion is dead after an exchange of gunfire right before 7:30 a.m.

According to information released in a press conference with Marion police officials, Joshua A. Green, 27, of Marion, a DOC parolee as of January, was the gunman involved in this morning's standoff in midtown.

Green was released on parole from his sentences on Williamson, Johnson and Jackson county felonies that involve Theft, Burglary and Forgery, dating back to 2008. None of his convictions involve violence.

Lt. Bill Sons of Marion PD Illinois State Police advised the media and others at the press conference that the situation unfolded early this morning (Tuesday, April 28) when at 3:21 a.m., a report of a car with its dome light on at 109 N. Russell in Marion was made; caller advised that weapons were visible inside the car.

A report of a female screaming came in immediately thereafter.

At 3:28 a.m., there were reports of shots fired.

At 7:24 a.m., Green exited the building holding the unidentified female hostage. There was an exchange of gunfire with police, and Green was killed.

Police recovered one firearm--a handgun--from the scene.

Authorities are still investigating the matter. There has been no word on the condition of the female, nor her whereabouts, only that she has been taken to an out-of-state hospital for treatment of her injuries.
