GALLATIN CO., Ill.--Gallatin County officials have confirmed that a man was found dead of hanging, an apparent suicide, in Old Shawneetown yesterday at about noon.
According to the Gallatin County Sheriff's Department, the body of Timothy Riggs, exact age not available (Deputy Sauls said he believed Riggs was in his early 50s), was found by a friend, Brent Wolfe, yesterday late morning (around noon, Tuesday, August 11, 2015).
Riggs' body was found hanging, an apparent suicide, at a location outside Riggs' home.
Riggs had only in February been indicted by a Union County, Kentucky, grand jury, on multiple counts: Careless Driving, Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Drugs or Alcohol, and Possession of a Controlled Substance First Degree/Second Offense - Meth.
The sheriff's department said the coroner's office was handing the death investigation, but for now, it appears to have been a suicide.
