CORONER RELEASES INFORMATION ABOUT OLD TOWN SUICIDE

GALLATIN CO., Ill.--Gallatin County Coroner Tony Cox has issued a release about the suicide of Timothy S. Riggs, 55, of Old Shawneetown.

The release reads as follows:

August 11, 2015

Our office received a call from the Saline County 911 for Gallatin County Sheriff Office that we were needed at Old Shawneetown to residence that was locate din ally way between Locust and Market North of Monroe Street.

Upon arriving shortly after 12 noon (received the call at 11:57 a.m.) we found Timothy S. Riggs, age 55, hanging from a tree behind a camper at said location. According to Officer Joe Westbrook fo the Shawneetown Police Department, a Brenton Wolf had found Mr. Riggs coming to check on him.

Mr. Riggs had been living in this camper for some time and it was located on village property in alley that ended near the levee.

Mr. Riggs had been hospitalized for about month and had just gotten out of the hospital on Monday, August 10. An autopsy was held on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 and the findings were conclusive with a suicide involving hanging. No foul play was determined. It was noted that Mr. Riggs had lost his wife tragically in 2011 from an automobile accident.

The Gallatin County Sheriff Department, Shawneetown Police Department and Gallatin County Coroner's office were in charge of the investigation

Mr. Riggs leaves behind a wife and a sister.
