U.S. DISTRICT COURT FOR THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF ILLINOIS--On August 12, 2015, Glendon C. Smith, 34, of Herrin, Ill., was sentenced for his involvement in a methamphetamine conspiracy, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, announced today.
Smith, who had previously pled guilty to the one-count indictment charging conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, was sentenced to 87 months in federal prison, 3 years’ supervised release and fined $200. The offense occurred between 2010 and January 2014, in Jackson, Williamson, Union, and Franklin counties.
Evidence at the plea and sentencing hearings established that Smith was involved with others in the manufacture of methamphetamine. Smith either purchased pseudoephedrine or obtained pseudoephedrine from others for use in the manufacture of methamphetamine. At the sentencing hearing, the district court found that Smith was responsible for the illegal possession of 114 grams of pseudoephedrine. Nine co-defendants have previously been sentenced for their involvement in the methamphetamine conspiracy. Two other co-defendants have pled guilty and are awaiting sentencing.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Murphysboro Police Department, Carbondale Police Department, Illinois State Police/Southern Illinois Drug Task Force, and Drug Enforcement Administration.
