MARION, Ill. - A small picket line was out in the heat today at Marion's new International House of Pancakes construction site.
Marion residents AJ Krumery and Joseph Harris from Carpenter's Local 638 out of Marion were waving at passersby on Blue Heron Drive across from the Rent-One ballpark, despite the hot July sun. They were protesting Barrett's Construction out of Woodlawn, Illinois, who is building the Marion IHOP, to the right in the photo.
"We are fighting for prevailing wage," said Harris.
"We know they aren't paying Union scale," stated Krumery.
Creamery advised that Barrett's "built the IHOP in Carbondale and it is proposed they will be building a strip mall there also. If so, we will follow them there too."
On the left in the photo, an outfit out of Wisconsin is building the new Culver's.
