SALINE CO., Ill. - A West Frankfort woman is dead after a single-vehicle crash yesteday on Illinois oute 3.
Illinois State Police, who assisted Saline County working the crash, said it occurred just after 6 p.m. not far from Galatia yesterday, Thursday, October 20. The driver's name has yet to be released pending notification of family.
ISP said that preliminary traffic crash investigation shows the 61-year-old driver of a blue 2000 Mercury Sable GS was traveling southbound on Illinois Highway 34, approximately 0.7 miles south of Ebenezer Church Road, when she ran off the right side of the roadway.
The vehicle traveled through a ditch before striking a ditch embankment and overturning.
The driver was not wearing her seatbelt; she sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
The vehicle was towed from the scene.
ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by the Saline County Sheriff’s Department, Saline County EMS, the Saline County Coroner, Galatia Fire and Rescue and Bishop’s Towing.
