Stolen steaks from Big John’s end with jail food

SALINE CO.— This issue’s general crime report offers a variety of stolen items from cuts of beef, gift cards and even a washer and dryer.

An Eldorado convicted felon has been charged with Retail Theft.

Formal charges allege that on or about January 7, Joshua Ryphson Carter, 35, of 2608 Locust St., Eldorado, walked out of Big John’s, located at 710 South Commercial St., Harrisburg, with a package of steaks without bothering to pay for them.

Carter’s criminal history includes an arrest March 8, 2004 during which he was charged with Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine Manufacture Chemicals, Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Title, Unauthorized Possession of a Title, No Valid Registration, Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.

Carter pleaded guilty to the stolen plate charge and was sentenced July 29, 2004 to probation for 24 months and after violating the terms of that probation at least twice was sentenced to another year of probation and a total of 60 days in the county jail.

Carter was also ordered to pay $3,813.60 in fines and fees.

He was also convicted of Forgery May 6, 2015 and sentenced to probation for 30 months and ordered to pay $3,552.20 in fines and fees, of which he still owes $2,552.20

At the time of his most recent arrest Carter was facing several charged from a December 16, 2015 case in which he is charged with one count each of Burglary and Criminal Damage to Property.

Carter was released from police custody after he posted a $1,000 cash bond.

Gift cards

A Carrier Mills woman who was sentenced February 8 in a theft case has been charged in a separate case with theft.

According to information filed in the case, on January 24, Jeana L. Hudgins, 32, of 428 West Harrison St., Carrier Mills, committed her latest act of thievery when she took $300 in Walmart gift cards from Joellen Knight.

Hudgins’ criminal history includes a June 28, 2010 conviction for Retail Theft for which she was sentenced to probation for 12 months, jail for 12 days and ordered to pay $1,075 in fines and fees.

And at the time Hudgins latest charge was filed she was already serving a probation sentence of 24 months handed her Feb. 8, 2017.

She was also ordered to pay $3,233.61 in fines and fees, of which she still owes $2,233.61.

No bond information was available in the case.

Washer and dryer

A convicted Harrisburg meth felon who already has a pending felony drug case has been charged with Theft.

According to court documents, on February 20, Zachary Allen Russel, 29, of 703 South Ledford St., Harrisburg, committed the offense of Theft when absconded with a washer and dryer belonging to Curtis L. Maddox.

His criminal history includes a conviction September 1, 2011 of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine for which he was sentenced to probation for 24 months and ordered to pay $4,101.85, of which he still owes $1,141.85.

He was also convicted of Possession of Stolen Vehicle for which he was sentence to 120 days in the county jail, probation for 48 months and $4,873.77, of which he still owes $3,249.77.

At the time of the filing of his latest charges Russel was out on $1,000 cash bond in a February 1, 2017 case in which he is charged with Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine and Unlawful Possession Drug Paraphernalia.

No bond information was available in the case.
