POPE CO.— A Golconda woman has been charged after authorities say she confronted a neighbor and the neighbor’s boyfriend with a gun.
The incident began when authorities received a call at approximately 6:35 p.m. August 5 in which Sarah Sorenson, of 919 South Franklin St., Golconda, reported that a woman by the name of ‘Charlene’ had come into her residence waiving a gun and demanding.
Charlene was later identified as 61-year-old Charlene Harris, of 125 Pope Street, Golconda.
Sorenson said that Harris had come to her house earlier in the afternoon with vodka and after she had become fairly intoxicated, she drove her home.
“I then went home to eat dinner,” Sorenson said. “I was in the kitchen. My boyfriend [Fernando Alveda] was on the couch watching TV and my six-month-old great, grand nephew was in the playpen sleeping.”
Sorenson said there was suddenly a knock at the door and Harris walked on in demanding pills and money.
“She pointed the gun at Fernando’s chest and he grabbed her arm and turned it toward her,” Sorenson said. “When I turned around from the kitchen I saw the gun and grabbed her and shoved her out the door and called 911.”
Officers responded within seconds of the call and located Harris, who admitted to being at Sorenson’s residence and to the possession of a gun, layer identified as a BB gun.
When officers spoke with Harris she was described as smelling ‘heavily’ of alcohol and had difficulty standing.
When asked what she had been drinking Harris said she had been consuming vodka and a beer.
She tested .323 on a portable breathalyzer and was given a notice to appear in court only baecause there was no jail who would take a female prisoner testing that high on a breathalyzer.
Harris was formally charged with Aggravated Assault of a Deadly Weapon.
The gun in question turned out to be a BB gun.
