Our Marion correspondent has confirmed that a non-specific call came in to authorities this morning at some point, indicating that there was an improvised explosive device (IED) on the second floor of a courthouse, not specific to Williamson OR Franklin. As a result, Williamson's courthouse is closed today, too, and all court dates are being rescheduled at this time; they may reopen at 1:15 is what we're hearing now. The administration building is not affected by this; just the courthouse.

Below is the original post.

FRANKLIN CO., Ill. - Franklin County Sheriff Don Jones is requesting the public to avoid the Franklin County Courthouse and public square until further notice.

This morning (Wednesday, September 27), a bomb threat was phoned in via 911 and officials are taking steps to investigate the threat.

The Franklin County Courthouse and Campbell Building have been evacuated as a safety precaution.

Sheriff Jones was on scene this morning coordinating with officials from Benton/West City Police, Benton Fire, and Franklin County Emergency Management Agency.

Additional updates will be provided as available.
