WHITE CO., Ill. - A sex offender from Marion was the subject of a call to Carmi police last week during a late-night incident that got a juvenile arrested for Disorderly Conduct.
The action went down at just before 10:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23, when a disturbance at Main Cross Apartments on 225 Main Cross was brought to the attention of Carmi PD.
Police were told that there were two juveniles allegedly riding around with a convicted sex predator from Marion, Richard J. Campbell. Campbell, 24, was convicted five years ago in Williamson County on a Child Porn count, although as you can see in the hotlink, he's had a number of other run-ins with the law as it pertains to sex offenses.
The parents of the juveniles, police reports show, were trying to locate the kids (ages/genders not available, although one, you will see, was a female) when they walked to the Main Cross Apartments. They were apparently found, but one of the juveniles refused to go home and was screaming.
Said screaming woke up residents, who signed a complaint for Disorderly Conduct. And when officers attempted to escort the juvenile to the vehicle, she pulled away and was additionally charged with Resisting Arrest.
Campbell, on the other hand, was nowhere to be found. It's unclear whether police are looking for him, nor if he's to face any charges. What he was doing in Carmi all the way over from Marion remains unclear. If there's an update, we'll post; be watching.
