Saline County — In the continuing trial for Roger Young’s alleged attempt to hire a hit man for his wifes murder, the defense has now rested, and the jury will be given the case this afternoon, with a verdict likely to be handed down later this afternoon.
The first person called to the stand this afternoon was Roger Young, 63, who was questioned by both the defense and the prosecution. Young’s attorney for the defense, Morgan Scroggins, questioned Young about the voice heard in yesterday’s audio evidence. Young told Scroggins that he did agree that it was in fact his voice heard in the recording that was played for the jury, but that he did not remember saying any of the contents of the tape.
Young testified that he takes between 5 to 10 Lortab everyday, and drinks alcohol on top of the medication.
When Assistant States Attorney Jason Olsen asked Young about his voice in the audio recording, Young changed his memory of the record. Young told Olsen that he was not sure that it was in fact his voice heard on the audio tape. When Olsen told Young that this statement did not agree with his statements to Scroggins, Young told Olsen that he did not remember saying anything on the tape, and that he only remembered getting into the van that evening. This debate on facts continued between Olsen and Young for several minutes before Olsen moved on.
The second person called to the stand this afternoon in court was Young’s son, Colten Young. Colten testified that he had not had any ongoing relationship with his mother for several years before her death, but that he did have an ongoing relationship with his father. Colten testified that he and his father would occasionally visit, and that he was aware of marital issues between his parents prior to his mother’s death.
The defense in the case has now rested, and it is expected that the case will be handed over to the jurors for deliberation within the next couple of hours. The jury will likely have produced a verdict by late this afternoon, and Disclosure will be there to hear it as it comes in. Check back frequently for the verdict, as it will be posted here on Disclosure News Online within moments of its announcement.
