Inmate reported beaten at Williamson County Jail; sources advise it was alleged child batterer

$

WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. - Williamson County authorities are being very cautious about releasing information regarding a jail battery that occurred Saturday, but our sources are advising that the victim was none other than the man accused of beating his own son so badly that the baby died.

Here's what Williamson County Sheriff Bennie Vick has issued in a press release:

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a battery that occurred in the Williamson County Jail.

On November 24, 2018, Williamson County Correctional Officers were notified that an inmate had been battered by one or more other inmates.

This inmate was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries received and then returned to the Williamson County Jail.

As this is an active investigation, no additional information will be released at this time.

Despite the caution, our sources have advised that the victim is Devin O'Daniell, the 25-year-old who was arrested this past Friday after it was alleged that he battered his own 3-month-old son. The baby was pronounced deceased on Monday following a flurry of online posts by the mother of the infant, over which several threads it was forwarded that O'Daniell had been beaten while in jail.

It's commonly known that most inmates, either in jail or in prison, despise child abusers and will take out their frustrations on such. However, any inmate who is so beaten, regardless of the cause but especially if there's a measure of "jailhouse justice being applied," has the right to sue the facility in which is occurred, and said "justice" could also harm the prosecution of the case, as counties have a tendency to not charge crimes against people who have even a hint of a viable civil tort in a court of law. So those in Williamson who are jumping up and down in glee might better check themselves and hope that O'Daniell doesn't get a real attorney specializing in Constitutional rights to be secure against cruel and unusual punishment (which all inmates have), because that invariably causes taxes to go up, and effectiveness of jails go down....and, it might mean that he would get off with a slap on the wrist.

This is just the latest in the dysfunction surrounding the case of the deceased infant; the mother of the child posted somewhat-horrific images of herself on Facebook while the baby was kept alive over the weekend, and made sure media knew that the baby's organs had been donated...right before she subsequently plead for "privacy."

It's unclear where O'Daniell is being held at this time, nor what his condition is.

Neither Jenkins, nor Downen, received any injuries from the traffic crash. In addition, none of the 20 juveniles being transported on the school bus reported any injuries.

Both vehicles were driven from the crash scene. The Shawneetown Police Department assisted ISP District 19 at the crash scene.

Roger Craig, from April 2018 at the Saline County Courthouse dealing with the nightmare Kim Buchanan caused

SALINE CO., Ill. - Saline County Coroner Jerry Watson has released information about the death of newly-elected Saline County Clerk Roger Craig.

Craig, 57, passed away the morning of Wednesday, December 12 at his residence in Harrisburg.

Watson advised that Craig died from Hepatic Failure. He was under the care of Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Craig, who was a former (and vocal) Saline County Board member, won the March Primary this year on the Republican ticket to make former three-term County Clerk Kim Buchanan a lame duck going into the November Mid-terms. He edged ahead of Democrat contender Julie Dunn in that election to win the seat, and just two weeks ago was sworn in.

ICYMI: Murder charge added in the case of infant death, Williamson County

Devin A. O'Daniell

WILLIAMSON CO., Ill. - When the site was down yesterday (Wednesday, December 12), we received press information about the situation involving Devin O'Daniell, the Marion man accused in the death of his infant son Claude a couple of weeks back.

The press release reads as follows:

The investigation into the death of a Marion infant is still ongoing, but new charges have currently been added against Devin O’Daniell in this matter.

On December 12, 2018, Devin A. O’Daniell was charged with the offense of first degree murder under 720 ILCS 5/9-1(a)(2).

The State’s Attorney’s Office is still awaiting official medical records from St. Louis. Once those are received and reviewed, other charges will be considered at that time.

O’Daniell is being held in the Williamson County Jail on a $1 million bond.

We have since learned that interestingly enough, when O'Daniell was beaten after he was jailed shortly after the report of the infant's battery, the security cameras "weren't working," therefore there's no evidence as to the jail incident...which will not bode well for the county, should O'Daniell manage to get himself a hotshot attorney who'll make mincemeant out of the situation.

When we learn more, we'll post.

Quinton C. Wilson

FRANKLIN CO., Ill. - An arrest has been made of a Benton man charged with counts relating to alleged sexual activity with children.

Franklin County authorities said that on December 22, 2018, deputies arrested Quinton C. Wilson, 31, of Benton at his residence.

Wilson has been charged with Grooming, a Class 4 felony, and Child Pornography, a Class 1 felony.

Detectives served a search warrant at Wilson’s residence this morning and Franklin authorities note that the investigation is ongoing.

Our sources are advising that at one point in time (if not recently; we're still working on obtaining that information), Wilson had been employed in some capacity by Lutheran Social Services...one of those agencies that the Department of Children and Family Service (DCFS) feeds children into during those rare moments when DCFS wants to appear as though they're doing their job.

Wilson is currently being held in the Franklin County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Domestic situation leads to stabbing death; woman charged in Karnak

Victim had criminal history, with most recent charges of Agg Batt - including one Class X - filed in September

Christie Brown

PULASKI CO., Ill. - A woman in Pulaski County is behind bars after a domestic situation turned deadly Friday night.

Illinois State Police are working the case at the request of local authorities after a brief investigation into the incident, which occurred at some time Friady evening, December 28.

Pulaski County sheriff's authorities initially responded to the scene in the little town of Karnak, where they had been called in reference to a domestic disturbance. However, upon arrival, they found Durial D. King, 33, having been stabbed. The other half of the domestic was Christie Brown, 31, who was arrested as the stabber.

King was transported to an undisclosed medical facility, where he died of his injuries.

Brown was jailed Friday night and formally charged on Saturday with a count of Involuntary Manslaughter of a Family Member and a count of Aggravated Domestic Battery, both of them Class 2 felonies and probationable. Considering she has no criminal history,

King, on the other hand, is a different story.

His criminal history in Pulaski County stretches back a number of years and, most recently in September of 2018, was charged with Class 3 felony Aggravated Battery in a Public Place and Class X felony Aggravated Battery Causing Great Bodily Harm using a Flammable Substance. Online court records don't show who the victim was; chances are, however, that people in Karnak are aware of it.

Those charges were dismissed today (December 31) upon King's death.

Brown is being detained pending either setting of a bond (if she can post it) or a preliminary hearing, which has been scheduled for January 14.

Charges reported filed against former Johnson County deputy after fatal crash

$

Cyle Harner on left (because of course there's no mug shot), former sheriff Charles Harner on right. Sometimes, nepotism isn't a god idea.

JOHNSON CO., Ill. - There's finally been a development in the case of a former Johnson County deputy's DUI-with-death crash that occurred earlier this year.

Court records indicate that Ed Parkinson, of the Illinois Appellate Prosecutor's office in Springfield, has stepped in on a conflict with Johnson County State's Attorney Tambra Cain, as she had to recuse herself in the case of a JC deputy, Cyle Harner, and his DUI accident in March 2018 that claimed the life of another man.

And while the charges aren't quite as serious as many believed they might be, they are at least something, albeit not something that might be afforded a regular citizen, given that Harner is a former deputy in JC as well as the former sheriff's son (former sheriff Charles Harner resigned about a month after the accident, citing "family needing him at home" as the reason for the resignation).

It's been determined after nine months that Cyle Harner, 28 of Vienna, was the one behind the wheel of a truck that, at a little after 2 a.m. on the morning of March 22, 2018, went off the road at a high rate of speed (later determined to have been 93 mph) on Illinois 146 outside of Vienna in what was very obviously an accident fueled by some kind of substance (later determined to have been booze, with a BAC at .22, almost three times the legal limit) or at the very least, bad behavior brought on by such.

Initial reports were evidently purposefully vague, prompting many JC residents to contact Disclosure regarding the matter. We produced this article in the May edition (you will need an online membership to the e-Edition, available at the hotlink if you don't have one), which is the first article produced to indicate what other media was leaving out but what everyone pretty much already knew: That Cyle Harner and buddies Tyler Inman and Troy Newman had been drinking heavily at Big Boys at the Loop, a bar popular with the Vienna prison employees crowd, and that the young Harner, who owned the truck, was likely the one behind the wheel and behaving stupidly. The ensuing accident claimed the life of Newman; however, it wasn't his family, but rather was Inman and his family, who filed a civil lawsuit against Harner in June of 2018, seeking damages against Harner as well as Big Boys (in a dram shop petition).

Harner, upon Parkinson requesting a thorough investigation into the matter, was finally arrested last week and now stands charged with three felonies in differing degrees: Class 2 felony DUI Causing Accident/Death; Class 3 felony Reckless Homicide with a Motor Vehicle; and Class 4 felony Aggravated DUI Causing an Accident with Great Bodily Harm. While the Class 2 felony is indeed serious, all charges are probationable upon conviction...and many in JC are decrying that situation. However, despite Parkinson's best efforts, he can only charge with the evidence he's presented, and the evidence doesn't bear out anything more serious.

In the meantime, simpering mainstream media is presenting the situation as if they've never heard of favoritism being shown toward public officials in the state of Illinois. With disingenuous rhetorical questions being posed in such articles as one a local TV station produced - "Parkinson filed charges against Harner Wednesday, but why did it take so long?" - they appear to be verging on inviting a credibility issue...because OF COURSE Johnson County residents know why it "took so long": In Illinois, and particularly in deep downstate Illinois, public officials are a protected class and when it comes to such incidents as this, they are a favored class. After such a DUI crash with death, higher authorities, such as ISP, take their time "investigating," as opposed to making an immediate arrest and letting the chips fall where they may, as they ordinarily do with a civilian. Factor in the issue of the county's prosecutor technically being county officials' legal counsel, which prompts recusal and the seating of a special prosecutor, and that makes for additional delays. In the interim, the public officials gin up support for their "plight," appealing to the citizens to feel sorry for them...and oftentimes, it works.

Whether or not it has in this instance is a subjective matter, depending on which side one adheres to - the one that says public officials can do no wrong, or the one that says they're fallible just like the rest of us and should be treated as such.

Which one Cyle Harner will fall into remains to be seen as well. He's set for a court hearing this Friday, January 4, on the criminal charges, and a review of the civil case on the same day. Judge Todd Lambert of Saline County has been brought in on the criminal case on a conflict with the local judge. Harner remains free on $5,000 cash bond.

Former mayor of Sesser busted on meth charge

$

Ned Mitchell

SESSER, Ill. - The hubris-filled former mayor of the little town of Sesser in north Franklin County has finally been busted on a serious enough charge to make headlines even mainstream media can't avoid: Meth Possession.

Ned Mitchell, the 70-something former mayor whose obnoxious behavior toward the end of his way-too-long reign in the city (on and off, from 1980 to 2013) helped contribute to his election loss in 2013, was arrested yesterday (January 15, 2019) on a Possession of Methamphetamine charge in Franklin County and reportedly spent the night in the Franklin County lockup.

Over the years (and prior to Disclosure going online, which is why there are no links in this text), Disclosure reported Mitchell's oftentimes salacious doings in Sesser, a couple of those reportedly contributing to his divorce filings. However, nothing was ever done with the guy, apparently because he had everyone so flummoxed (or possibly in fear) that they would cover for him, to his ex's great dismay (they finally got divorced in 2011, at which time it was reported that he had taken up with a VERY-much-younger chickie.)

Still, errbody jess LURVED thur mayor...until 2013, when he was finally defeated in the election that spring by Jason Ashmore, who just a couple of years ago secured a second term.

Somewhere there in his reign, Mitchell was apparently appointed to a temporary position as state senator in the 59th district, too...no surprise, as southern Illinois seems to have a problem with making appointments of obnoxious people. to prominent offices.

And then, of course, there's all the former controversy surrounding Mitchell's kid Justin, and Justin's relationship with former Badge Bunny Brittney Lane, which association, as you can read at the links, probably helped the Brittster avoid serious charges in the death of motorcyclist Terry Rawson in late 2014.

It's nice to finally see some of the more obnoxious POs (public officials) of downstate Illinois be called out for their doings...but as most southern Illinoisans know, for every one that's found out, there are literally hundreds of others doing the same and continuing to get away with it.

We'll follow up on this situation as we can. Be watching.

Kentucky man dies at Marion massage business

MARION, Ill. - A Kentucky man in his 5Os was found in distress at a Marion, Illinois, massage business Wednesday morning (January 16, 2019.)

Police received the call of the man in distress at 10:57 a.m. and responded to the business, which name is unclear; a sign above the entryway states simply "Massage," but it's unknown if that's the name of the place or if the name (as tracked back by the phone number) is "King Spa" (confusing because it's unclear whether there's actually a spa there), as none of the employees speak English and it was impossible today to contact anyone, as the place was closed.

The man, whose name has not been released, was taken by ambulance and later died at Heartland Regional Medical Center.

The man's death is not being considered suspicious.

As stated above, no one was available at the massage business for comment. The business, "King Spa," "Massage" or otherwise, is located in a strip mall at 807 N. Court Street.
