No citations issued, however
MARION, Ill. - Two squad cars and a Marion Fire Department engine responded quickly today to reports of a fire on Stanford Avenue in Marion.
Huge billowing pillars of black smoke could be seen for miles away in Marion, and were accompanied by small explosions from the debris fire on vacant property just north of the Morgan Avenue intersection with Stanford.
Relatives of John Watson, one of the land owners, had been hard at working cleaning up the vacant lots. He said the City of Marion had warned them to get the lots cleaned up, and also had said they could burn the debris.
Marion firefighter Schmid wasted no time in extinguishing the blaze which had already started to spread east toward nearby homes.
He advised the workers of Marion's burn Ordinances, but kindly issued no citations.
