Eddyville man charged in wake of watering hole throwdown

POPE CO.— An Eddyville man has been charged with a pair of felonies after authorities say he attacked a man at a local watering hole.

According to information filed in the case, on August 22 Michael D. Taber, 38, of 125 Marian St., Eddyville, knowingly caused bodily harm to Geral Myers while on the property of Shawnee Restaurant and Lounge when he struck Myers in the face with a closed fist and struck him in the head with an aluminum level.

Taber was formally charged with two counts of Aggravated Battery, one count for the incident occurring in a public place and a second for the use of a weapon.

Taber was convicted October 5, 1999 of Unlawful Possession/ Consumption of Liquor by a Minor, resulting in a sentence of court supervision for six months and ordered to pay $150 in fines and fees.

Seven months later, May 4, 2000 conviction for Unlawful Possession/ Consumption of Liquor by a Minor, earned him a sentence of court supervision for 12 months and an order to obtain alcohol treatment and to pay $527 in fines and fees.

He was sentenced to conditional discharge for 12 months following an October 16, 2007 misdemeanor conviction for Endangering the Life and Health of a Child.

That charge was amended down from a felony charge of Child Abduction by Force.

That case also cost him another $845 in fines and fees.

At the time of his arrest Taber was serving a conditional discharge sentence of 12 months, handed him July 26, 2017 after he was convicted of Theft.

That case cost him $300 in fines and fees, of which he still owes $100.

Cash bond in the case was set at $750.
